Enrolment Procedure

The policy of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Services (DEECD) is that: “School programs should be provided by the Department of Education for students with intellectual disabilities within the same age range as for other students, namely, approximately 5 to 18 years”.

While prime referral and enrolment is because of intellectual disability, it is very evident from the school population that other disabilities, especially autism, communicative, physical, sensory and social/emotional, are becoming more pronounced. Implications of this are that buildings and programs are constantly modified to suit changing needs and that staff are trained in skills to accommodate these changing needs. Group composition at DVSDS varies each year according to the particular needs of enrolled students.

For enrolment, students need to be assessed by an educational psychologist, complete an Educational Needs Questionnaire, and have the enrolment approved by the Resource Co-ordination Group.
