Primary

At Diamond Valley Special Developmental School, we understand that a child’s experience during their primary school years plays a major part in their educational outlook.

For that reason, we strive hard to help our students reach their full potential while recognising that each one grows, learns and develops in their own unique way.

We believe that providing a safe and nurturing setting is fundamental to creating the best learning environment.

In short our primary school classrooms are built on a foundation of mutual respect.

Our staff support and value the individuality of the students by embracing their personalities, respecting their decisions and clearly explaining all instructions in a fair and gentle manner.

In return, every student learns to model similar behaviour towards their teachers.

At DVSDS, we offer a comprehensive range of programs both within the school and the community:

  • Art
  • Drama
  • ICT
  • Community Access
  • Maths
  • Literacy

Every lesson is highly geared toward developing socially-appropriate behaviour by meeting student’s individual communication and modulating individual sensory needs.

Primary school students take part in weekly excursions, integration and community access programs designed to bolster their physical and social skills as well as satisfy their individual learning goals and requirements.

Popular excursions involve education sessions at gymnastics centres as well as integration at local primary schools and integrated units on specific AUSVELS topics.

Technology plays a major role in our highly-interactive classrooms where iPads, digital cameras, DVD players and CD players help enhance the learning experience.

Interactive whiteboards also feature predominantly as students develop their social skills and enjoy a full sensory experience during classroom learning activities.
