Student Illness

At DVSDS we have an obligation to maintain a healthy and safe environment. As a special developmental school we have vulnerable and compromised students that are more susceptible to illness. It is therefore imperative that children are not sent to school when they are unwell. If a student becomes ill at school or arrives at school obviously unwell, parents/carers will be contacted and asked to collect their child from school and kept at home until well again.

Certain diseases are highly infectious and the Department of Health requires schools to exclude students suffering from these illnesses. Some of the illnesses include;

COVID-19, influenza, chicken pox, conjunctivitis, whooping cough, giardiasis or shigella or rotavirus (diarrhoea), hepatitis, school sores and ringworm. In the event of a disease outbreak, unvaccinated students or students with an unknown vaccination status, may also be required to be excluded from school until the risk of infection has passed.
