Programs in this area assist students to become aware of their community and what it means to be a citizen. They provide opportunities for students to actively participate in the celebrations, local events and interact within the community. Through these experiences students consolidate their knowledge of their community, its values and a sense of their place within the community. Students will develop the skills and behaviours needed to purposefully engage with organisations, groups and the broader community.
Community Access programs are targeted meet the real life needs of each student. As a consequence much of the learning process takes place outside the classroom. Regular excursions are made into the community including travel training, shopping and a wide variety of other community based activities.
Camps
Camps and outdoor education are valuable and worthwhile experiences for our students that help to develop independence. A high staff/student ratio is maintained on camps with the assistance of our wonderful group of volunteers.
