Communication

At Diamond Valley SDS our goal is for our students to be autonomous communicators and for every student to have a voice. This means each student is supported to have a way to greet, complain, ask a question, comment, request, express an opinion, share a story, joke or idea and communicate something that others couldn’t guess!

The ultimate goal for our students is to be able to say whatever they want say to whoever they want to say it to, whenever they want to say it and however they want to say it (Gayle Porter).

At Diamond Valley SDS communication is integrated across all programs and areas of the curriculum. Students are provided with every opportunity to develop their communicative independence.

A multimodal approach provides students with an environment which encourages overall communication skills and engagement. A variety of communication methods are used throughout the school including speech, sign and electronic and non-electronic communication systems.
