Literacy

At Diamond Valley SDS, we strive to support every student to learn to read, write, spell and develop a love of literacy.

Our philosophy is that ‘no child is too anything… to learn to read and write’.

-David Yoder

Literacy at Diamond Valley SDS is embedded across the whole school day. Our team also supports our students literacy development through:

  • Shared and Guided Reading programs
  • Letter Sound Awareness activities
  • Writing programs e.g. predictable chart writing
  • The use of decodable readers

We understand that many of our students with complex communication needs must learn to spell any words that are not already in their communication system/s, in order to become truly autonomous communicators.

We value the importance of developing our student’s literacy skills and aim to provide great literacy instruction for all at Diamond Valley SDS.
